–Officials with Iowa Lakes Community College confirmed members of the school’s baseball team were involved in a bus accident Wednesday morning while the team was traveling to Arkansas for games later this week.
An Iowa Lakes spokesperson released a statement Wednesday afternoon stating that emergency personnel immediately responded to the scene along Iowa Highway 4 in rural Calhoun County near Twin Lakes and transported injured individuals to nearby medical facilities.
Sgt. Alex Dinkla with the Iowa State Patrol confirmed the bus was carrying 33 passengers when it went off the roadway and entered the ditch west of Twin Lakes just after 11 AM. Dinkla released a statement confirming one fatality and multiple serious injuries as a result of the crash.
Officials with UnityPoint Health confirmed that 10 individuals were transported to UnityPoint Health-Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge while two more were taken to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
The Iowa DOT’s 511ia.org website showed a detour in place around the accident site, about a mile north of US Highway 20.
According to the school’s website, the team was on their way to Harrison, Arkansas for games against North Arkansas College on Thursday and Friday.
