–A Northwest Iowa man is facing a felony domestic assault charge following an alleged incident in rural Kossuth County last weekend.

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies arrested 46-year-old Jerry Wayne Kilts of Sheldon just after 9:15 AM on Sunday, February 8th on charges of Domestic Abuse Assault-3rd or subsequent offense, a Class D Felony. Law enforcement officials say that Kilts has most recently been living with his girlfriend at a residence in Armstrong.

A criminal complaint filed in Kossuth County District Court alleges Kilts assaulted his girlfriend while he was a passenger in her vehicle on the evening of Saturday, February 7th. The complaint alleges that during an argument, Kilts grabbed the steering wheel and attempted to crash the vehicle while traveling north of Lone Rock. When the victim stopped, Kilts allegedly choked her and threatened to kill her, before fleeing the scene on foot.

Kilts was apprehended the following morning and faces the felony level charge due to multiple previous domestic assault convictions. He was booked into the Kossuth County Jail to await an initial court appearance.

Court records also show a no contact order has been issued to prevent Kilts from having any contact with the alleged victim in the case.
