–The Kossuth County Board of Supervisors took the first step in repealing an ordinance restricting the location of hazardous liquid pipelines during their meeting Tuesday after a federal court sided with Summit Carbon Solutions last month. County Auditor Tammy Eden discussed when the board could hold a public hearing to begin the process of repealing the restrictions that was initially passed in December of 2023.
Other counties across the state that with similar pipeline regulations have been forced to repeal them after a federal judge ruled in April that these ordinances are preempted by federal law and granted a permanent injunction preventing their enforcement. The Emmet County Board of Supervisors repealed their pipeline ordinance during a meeting last week.
