–A Bancroft man is facing multiple assault charges following an early morning incident last week.

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies responded to the report of a domestic disturbance in Bancroft around 6:45 AM Friday.

A criminal complaint filed in Kossuth County District Court states that 78-year-old Joseph William Degeeter refused to follow instructions by attempting to leave the room while Deputies were speaking with him. In an attempt to keep the suspect in the room, one of the Deputies blocked his path and placed his hands on Degeeter, at which point Degeeter slapped the Deputy in the face.

Degeeter was placed in handcuffs and allegedly kicked both Deputies in the legs and shins multiple times as they were removing him from the home and placing him in a patrol vehicle. He was booked into the Kossuth County Jail on charges of Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury or Mental Illness-1st offense, a Serious Misdemeanor, and Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations, an Aggravated Misdemeanor.

Degeeter was booked into the Kossuth County Jail before being released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on June 11th in Kossuth County District Court. A no contact order has also been issued to prevent Degeeter from having any contact with the alleged victim in the case.
