–No injuries were reported after a small plane was forced to land in a rural NW Iowa field over the holiday weekend.
According to the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, the plane crash was reported at 10:43 AM on Saturday. An investigation into the incident states that 71-year-old Kenneth Kemna of North Ft. Myers, Florida had just taken off from the Spirit Lake airport in Okoboji when the plane experienced some sort of mechanical problem.
Kemna was able to set the plane down near the Dickinson County Nature Center, less than a mile from the airport.
Emergency personnel from Dickinson County, Spirit Lake, Okoboji, and Arnolds Park, along with officers from the Iowa State Patrol all assisted at the scene.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the crash.
