North Union Softball Downs Bishop Garrigan, Advances to Regional Semifinals

The Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears softball team was defeated Wednesday night by the North Union Warriors, 11-3 in six innings in the class 1A – region 6 quarterfinal round in Swea City.

North Union got the scoring started in the first inning, as Shallie Walders hit a two-run homer, her 10th longball of the season.  The Warriors would add four runs in the third inning to go up 6-0, as Brylie Deim hit her 14th home run, while Kyla Irmiter and Carlynn Zotz recorded RBI base hits. 

Bishop Garrigan struck for two runs in the top of the fourth, as Lilly Erpelding-Wickman hit a two-run homer, her fifth longball of the season.  The Golden Bears then made it 6-3 in the fifth inning, as Emma Garman scored from third base on a wild pitch with two outs.

The comeback would end there however, as the Warriors scored a run in the bottom of the fifth, then four in the sixth to finish the game, as Walders hit a two run double to end the game with the 8-run rule, finishing her night 3/5 with 5 RBI.

Ainsley Ulrich struck out 9 Golden Bear batters, allowing just four hits to pick up the win.  Jacie Johnson was 3/4 at the plate with 2 RBI for North Union. 

Bishop Garrigan ends their season at 15-9, while North Union moves to 24-10 and will take on Newell-Fonda on Friday night in the regional semifinals, as Newell-Fonda rallied to beat Gehlen Catholic 7-6 on Wednesday night in the regional quarterfinals.
