–Democrat Rob Sand brought his campaign for Governor to Kossuth County today, speaking to a standing-room only crowd this morning at the Algona Public Library. Sand asked if there were any registered Republicans or Independents in the crowd, saying politics in Iowa has become more about helping your party than serving constituents.
Before taking questions, Sand laid out his issues with the way Iowa conducts primary elections, which require a party affiliation for voters to participate.
Sand has been highly critical of the state’s Education Savings Account program that now allows any private school students to receive state money to help cover costs, and he was asked what changes he would make if elected.
Before concluding his remarks, Sand talked about why he has been critical of Republican nominee Zach Lahn spending a considerable amount of time out of state.
Sand stopped in Algona as part of his 100 Town Hall tour, which he announced shortly after June’s primary. Before leaving for public events in Garner and Forest City today, he challenged his Republican opponent to put himself in front of Iowa voters in the same manner.
