–Algona Schools approved a short-term contract with Kossuth Regional Health Center this week as the district will now have their own nurse on staff to look after student needs. Superintendent Joe Carter says rising costs over the last few years have prompted the district to explore other options.
Last year’s contract paid KRHC just over $109,000 to have a nurse on the premises or within mobile contact for 7 hours a day while classes were in session, and a total of 1500 hours for the school year. Carter says this new agreement will assist the new hire.
Carter says this transition will save the district money when state funding continues to stay below inflation levels each year.
The board approved the contract with KRHC and the hiring of Rebecca Lewis as the new school nurse during their meeting on Monday.
