–The Republican looking to become Iowa’s next Governor made a stop in Kossuth County Wednesday, speaking at an agriculture learning day near Algona. Zach Lahn was able to lay out some of his ag policies during the forum that was hosted by Natural Heartland Solutions. During an interview with KLGA News, Lahn noted that all politicians are going to say they support farmers during an election year.
One of the ideas Lahn has championed on the campaign trail would require that 80% of the food served in Iowa’s public schools are produced in the state.
When it comes to the topic of carbon sequestration, Lahn says he has made his opinion known.
Governor Kim Reynolds vetoed a bill last summer that would have mandated eminent domain not be used to finalize the Summit Carbon Solutions pipeline project. As Lahn continues his campaign to replace Reynolds, the topic of debating his Democratic opponent has come up in recent weeks, as both sides have offered different ideas.
Rob Sand’s campaign initially proposed 4 debates in different areas of the state, while Lahn’s campaign suggested a total of six debates, with a Lincoln-Douglas style format. Lahn says he’s not sure if the two sides will come to an agreement anytime soon.
