–Area Medicare recipients will once again be able to receive free counseling sessions this fall as the open enrollment period begins October 15th. Marla Steier is one of the volunteers with the Senior Health Insurance Information Program, commonly known as SHIIP, at Kossuth Regional Health Center. Steier tells KLGA News that important information will be coming to all Medicare recipients in the next few weeks.
Steier says if you’re new to the area or new to Medicare and have not worked with a SHIIP counselor in the past, they have multiple ways for you to set up an appointment.
When you work with a SHIIP counselor, Steier says they will go over your prescription drug plans to make sure you can sign up for the plan that best fits your needs.
Steier has hosted a few “New to Medicare” workshops this year to try and reach out to those who may be going through this process for the first time.
Last year, SHIIP volunteers in Kossuth County helped area Medicare recipients save over $430,000 during the open enrollment period. Anyone who needs more information can contact the SHIIP program by calling 515-295-4658 or stop by the front desk as Kossuth Reigonal Health Center.
