–The Algona Community School District is seeing a slight drop in students this fall as certified enrollment figures are being tallied this month. Superintendent Joe Carter went through the initial figures with the school board during their meeting Monday.

The initial certified enrollment figure of 1413 students is down from 1422 last year and 1446 in 2024.

Certified enrollment numbers are used to determine the amount of money each district receives from the state, but the process has been changed slightly for the coming year. The district will also count students on January 15th, and the average of that number and the October figures will determine the district’s per pupil funding for the coming year. Previously the October number was the one used by the state.
