Algona’s Reese Taylor wrapped up a strong freshman campaign by placing 31st at the state swimming and diving meet in the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 173.85. Taylor, who was one of just three freshmen to qualify for state in the event, says it was an eye-opening experience.

Heading into the season, Taylor wasn’t planning on going out for the team, until the coach saw her flipping off a diving board.

Going into the state meet, Taylor had banged her arm on the board in practice, adding some difficulty to the competition, but she was able to push through it.

Throughout the meet, Taylor attempted some dives with a higher degree of difficulty, something she says had mixed results.

With one state competition under her belt, Taylor is already planning on how to get more practice in during the offseason to help get her to the next level.
