–The Algona City Council got an update on the progress city staff is making with regards to extending insurance benefits to the family of Police Officer Kevin Cram during a work session Monday afternoon. City Administrator Jacob Tjaden told the council they are working to define who could be covered by this amended city policy.

The city had no official policy that would allow the family of a fallen officer to maintain their insurance coverage prior to the death of Officer Cram. Tjaden says they have been working out the exact coverage that will be provided.

Tjaden says staff should have a policy finalized by the time the council meets in November. Currently the city has extended the family’s insurance coverage for up to 3-years, until they can get a formal policy written and approved that will cover Officer Cram’s family retroactively.
