Woden Man Charged with Wife’s Murder

–A Hancock County man has been charged with 1st Degree Murder after his estranged wife was found dead Saturday morning at a residence in Woden.

According to the Iowa Department of Public Safety, Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence at 633 Way Avenue in Woden for a welfare check just after 11 AM Saturday. Upon arrival, Deputies made entry to the residence and located a female subject, identified as 56-year-old Karen Abby Crews of Woden. Crews was unresponsive when she was found by law enforcement officers and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Around 8:30 PM Saturday, 56-year-old Roger Laverne Crews Jr. of Woden was arrested without incident at the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office in Minnesota. Karen and Roger were separated at the time of the incident and living apart.

The investigation is being conducted by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. Assistance was provided by the Iowa State Patrol, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department, Lake Mills Police Department, Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, Albert Lea Police Department and the Hancock County Medical Examiner’s Office.
