–Law Enforcement Officials confirmed one person was killed and five more injured during a shooting at Perry High School early Thursday morning.

During a press conference held Thursday afternoon, Mitch Mortvedt with the Iowa Department of Public Safety announced that a 6th grade student from Perry Middle School had been killed, while four other students and an administrator had been injured. The names of the victims have not been made public at this time.

The shooter has been identified as 17-year-old Dylan Butler, who was a student at Perry High School. Mortvedt says Butler died of what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was armed with a pump-action shotgun as well as a small caliber handgun. Law enforcement and emergency personnel also disarmed at least one improvised explosive device (IED).

The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation is continuing the investigation into the incident, however they believe that Butler acted alone in the incident.
