–Candidates who will be on the ballot for June’s primary election in Kossuth County took part in a live forum Tuesday night sponsored by the Algona Chapter of the American Association of University Women. Candidates were asked a wide variety of questions, many having to do with the current state of the county’s finances.
The candidates for Supervisor District #5 discussed their work with budgets and how they can assist the board with the budgeting process should they be elected. Christian Schlaefer says he works with finances on a regular basis.
Amber Garman says her years serving as Kossuth County Auditor would help her make budget related decisions.
Dennis Higgins says he learned to live on a tight budget when he began his 32-year career working for the county.
With a tight budget, the candidates for sheriff were asked if they would be in favor of continuing to fund the Community Liaison position.
That’s Sheriff Roger Fisher, who says the position is currently funded with grant dollars. Deputy Brian Runneberg says the position is worth keeping when the grant fund runs out.
