–A group that tours the country honoring fallen law enforcement officers made a stop in Algona Tuesday to pay their respects to the family and friends of Officer Kevin Cram. The “End of Watch Ride to Remember” started in 2020 as a way to honor those who have died in the line of duty. Allison McCorter is one of the rides’ Coordinators, and she tells KLGA News they’ve been on the road for over 2 months bringing their 40-foot memorial trailer with them.
The most recent End of Watch Ride was held in 2022, and it shared the stories of some 611 officers who died in the line of duty in the previous year.
The group is based out of Washington state, and was founded by JC Shah, a former Deputy Sheriff. McCorter says much of Shah’s motivation was to keep these stories alive, as the initial wave of support for family members and colleagues of fallen officers tends to fade over time.
After leaving Algona, the End of Watch Ride had stops planned in Prairie City and Coralville on Tuesday. The ride has stops in Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and North Dakota still before it wraps up on August 12th. You can find out more by going online to www.endofwatchride.com
