–A bond issue in the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura School District passed with room to spare Tuesday, while a similar vote in Emmetsburg came up short .
Voters in Hancock County approved a $21-Million bond issue for the Garner-Hayfield/Ventura School District, with 1,693 votes in favor and just 604 against. That equates to 73% voter approval, easily eclipsing the 60% needed to pass.
The district plans on using the funds to upgrade classroom space and increase security measures in their buildings.
Voters in Palo Alto County gave a slight majority to a nearly $30 Million bond issue for the Emmetsburg School District, but it did not reach the 60% approval mark needed for passage. The public measure received 1,247 votes in favor and 1,211 against.
The district had planned to use the funds to construct a new elementary school to replace the current West Elementary, which is in need of repair.
