–Company officials say no employees were harmed, but a firefighter was injured and countless birds were lost in a massive blaze at the Hawkeye Pride Egg Farm near Corwith Thursday evening.

Versova, the parent company of the Hawkeye Pride facility, released a statement Friday morning offering support for the unidentified firefighter and appreciation for the area departments that responded to the incident.

The company says several flocks were injured but did not give a number on how many birds may have perished, as the facility houses around 6,000,000 hens. The company did not say when the fire began Thursday, but social media posts indicate area fire departments were first called around 6 PM.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, and the incident remains under investigation.

The Hawkeye Pride facility, located 3 miles southeast of Corwith, employs approximately 130 people.
