–The Algona Evangelical Free Church will celebrate their 40th anniversary with a special service this Sunday. Pastor Dan Jordan tells KLGA News they have been reviewing the church’s history throughout the month in anticipation of this weekend’s events.

One of the original members is Mike Mawdsley, who helped get the church going in Algona four decades ago, and serves as an Elder for the congregation today.

The Evangelical Free Church held their first worship service in Algona on March 16th, 1986, in the basement of the Farm Bureau building. Mawdsley says more pieces were added to the church in the coming months.

In June of 1986, the church leased the former post office in downtown Algona and made renovations to hold services at that location. Mawdsley says more renovations were needed when they bought their current building on Highway 169 North in August of 1991.

This Sunday’s service begins at 10 AM and will be followed by a meal and social time at the church.
