–A pair of projects in Kossuth County have been included in a federal funding bill that will send over $64 million to the state of Iowa to replace bridges and culverts that are in poor condition.
Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley announced the funding for 67 different projects across the state over the weekend. The money will be administered through the Department of Transportations Competitive Highway Bridge Program as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
Kossuth County Engineer Doug Miller says one project will replace the bridge over the East Fork of the Des Moines River along County Road P16 (20th Avenue) north of Fenton, while the other is along County Road A30 (460th Street) east of Ledyard, at the crossing with the Union Slough outlet. If things go on schedule, the county will take bids on these projects in the fall of 2027 with work to be completed in the 2028 calendar year.
This round of funding also includes bridge projects in Emmet, Hancock, Humboldt, and Pocahontas counties. Each of the bridges being replaced with this federal money is rated as being in poor condition.
