–The Algona School Board officially approved the district’s budget for the upcoming school year during their meeting this week. Superintendent Joe Carter outlined what the budget will mean for property tax rates in the district.
Area residents will see a slight bump in property tax rates, but Carter emphasized where the current rates compare to those before Algona merged with the former Lu Verne district.
The district saw enrollment numbers drop by nearly 30 this year, something administrators planned for and budgeted accordingly. Carter says they expect the certified numbers to be much more stable for the coming year, with a less sizeable gap between the number of graduating High School Seniors and kids entering Kindergarten.
