–The Kossuth County Board of Supervisors reviewed enhanced safety measures that have been installed near a rural intersection in the wake of a fatal car crash earlier this year. County Engineer Doug Miller outlined some of the additional warning signals that that now line the road near the intersections of County Road B40 and 90th Avenue, 2 miles west of Algona.

Miller says they are doing what they can to make sure drivers know they are approaching an intersection with heavy cross traffic.

Data provided to the board by Kossuth County EMS showed the number accidents resulting in serious injuries is much higher at this intersection than any other that is controlled by the county. 5th District Supervisor Amber Garman says she’s concerned some drivers don’t seem to be receiving the message.

47-year-old Carolee Wise of Emmetsburg was killed in late April when her vehicle was struck by a semi that failed to stop at the intersection of B40 and 90th Avenue. An investigation into the accident is ongoing, as authorities decide whether charges will be filed against the driver of the semi, identified as 40-year-old Teddy Kutsch of Brule, Nebraska.
