–Algona wrestler Regan Jensen recently earned All-American honors with a 4th place finish at the U.S. Marine Corps Junior Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota. The soon to be Junior at AHS competed in the 16U Division at 170 pounds in a bracket containing 50 of the best wrestlers from around the country. During an interview with KLGA Sports, Jensen says she hadn’t given much thought to competing at Fargo when the high school season ended in February.
Jensen has competed across the country this spring and summer and qualified for Fargo by winning the Iowa Freestyle State tournament in May.
State Champion Ruby Roof also competed in Fargo, going 2-2 in the 125-pound weight class of the 16U division. Jensen says having Roof around made her feel more at home.
Jensen admits she didn’t have a lot of expectations entering the tournament, which is widely known as the toughest in the country.
Since she only began wrestling in Middle School, Jensen says it’s almost hard to believe what she’s accomplished in just a couple of years.
Jensen was one of three Iowa wrestlers to bring home All-American honors in the 16U Division this year. She will be a Junior this year at AHS, and is coming off a 2nd place finish in Class 2A as a Sophomore.
