The Hancock County Board of Supervisors did not act on any of the proposed moratoriums on their agenda this week after recently tabling a 6-month data center moratorium.
The board considered six-month moratoriums on the development of data centers, solar farms, battery storage facilities, and crypto mines at their meeting Monday.
During the meeting, Supervisor Florence Greiman made a motion on each of the four moratoriums, but fellow supervisors Gary Rayhons and Bud Jermeland did not offer a second to any of the motions, which is required for further discussion and a formal vote.
While discussing the proposed moratoriums, Greiman stated that she believes they wouldn’t chase away business opportunities, but both Jermeland and Rayhons say they feel the county can be best protected by an ordinance.
In early September, the Hancock County Planning & Zoning Commission voted to deny a petition asking for a zoning change for a potential data center near Garner.
