A new fully automatic timing system is coming to Algona High School’s track and field facility. According to a press release from the Algona Community School Foundation, after last year’s passing of former Algona coach and teacher Chad Ahlers, his aunt and uncle Joyce and Vince Connolly chose to memorialize him with a donation of twenty thousand dollars, to be used for the new timing system.
Algona athletic director Andy Jacobsen says that over time, it has become more important to have one of these systems, as more schools install fully automatic timing and the Drake Relays only accepts FAT times for entries.
Jacobsen says the old system of manually timing the meets also came with some major inconveniences.
Jacobsen outlined the ways in which FAT will streamline track meets.
Algona is currently working to get the new system installed and tested in time for this season’s home track meets.
