–Work is scheduled to resume later this month in Central Park as part of the city of Algona’s redevelopment effort, that includes a new skatepark and splashpad. City Administrator Jacob Tjaden tells KLGA News that the skatepark can be used while the work is finished over the next couple of months.

During their meeting on May 1st, the City Council awarded the contract for Phase II or the reconstruction project to Bob Becker Construction of Wesley.

Tjaden says if everything goes well this summer, work on the splashpad should be completed during the summer months of 2024 at the latest.

Tjaden says the community has really stepped up to support the project, after a survey back in 2021 showed over 90% or respondents wanted to see a splash pad in Central Park.

The city recently received a $20,000 contribution for the project from Kossuth County Community Foundation. The bidding process for the second phase of the project had to be reopened last month after contractors couldn’t get cost estimates from the splash pad installers in time for the first bid deadline.
