–Bishop Garrigan High School is once again being honored by the Iowa Secretary of State’s Office for getting vast majority of their eligible students registered to vote.

Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate announced recently that Bishop Garrigan is one of 19 schools across the state to receive the Carrie Chapman Katt award, as they have 90% of their eligible students registered to vote. It is the 3rd straight year that Bishop Garrigan has met this threshold. Lake Mills was the only other school in the area that also met the 90% threshold.

Each of the 19 schools will be presented with a Carrie Chapman Katt award trophy

Another 9 schools from around the state have at least 70% of their eligible students registered, while 10 had at least 50% registered to vote.

Carrie Chapman Katt was a famous Iowa native who was instrumental in securing passage of the 19th amendment, granting women the right to vote just over 100 years ago.
