–A Lakota man is the latest recipient of the “1440 Citizen of the Month” award from the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Roger Fisher made a special presentation during Thursday night’s “Salute to Veteran’s” at the Kossuth County Speedway, honoring local Hunting with Heroes Co-Founder Bernie Becker.

Bernie and his son Jason co-founded the local Hunting with Heroes, where they organize events that benefit veterans locally and around the country. They bring wounded veterans to North Iowa each year for a Pheasant Hunt, while also hosting an event on Veterans Day where area vets and widows of vets can get a free Thanksgiving meal.

Thursday’s Salute to Veterans race is another of their events, where veterans are honored at multiple racetracks in Iowa, including the Kossuth County Speedway. They also use fundraising events to help provide financial and emotional support to veterans.

If you know someone that lives or works in Kossuth County that displays a positive attitude towards helping others, you can nominate them for the “1440 Award” by emailing Sheriff Fisher at [email protected] or fill out the nomination form available on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
