–The Kossuth County Board of Supervisors will continue their discussions about appointing a new manager for the Kossuth County Landfill and Transfer Station during their meeting Tuesday morning. At their meeting last week, the Supervisors tabled a recommendation from Kossuth County Engineer Doug Miller to name Blake Stevens the new manager. Supervisors Kyle Stecker made the motion to table the appointment due to concerns over issues raised during the exit interview with former manager Dustin Hansen.

The board voted 3-2 to table that recommendation, with Supervisors Plathe and Tjarks voting against. That discussion could take place in Closed Session, if so requested by one of the parties that could be impacted.

The board will also continue their discussions with Miller regarding efforts to restructure his contract with the county. Last week the board voted 3-1 (Tjarks against, Plathe abstained) to present Miller with an amended contract for his consideration. The amended contract would eliminate a provision that would require the unanimous vote of the board to remove Miller without cause as County Engineer prior to the end of his contract. The amended language would only go into effect with Miller’s approval.

In July, the board voted to officially notify Miller his contract will not automatically be renewed when it is set to expire in June of 2026. The contract would be automatically renewed if official notice was not made at least 90 days prior to its expiration.
