–There will be just a handful of contested races across Kossuth County in the city/school board elections scheduled for November 7th. The Kossuth County Auditor’s Office released the names of those who filed paperwork to run for office on Monday.
The Algona and North Kossuth School Board elections will not have any contested spots. In Algona, four seats are up for election this year, with incumbents Tom Nugent, Brent Owen, Andrea Vinci and Todd Louwagie all seeking reelection unopposed. The North Kossuth District will need some write-in candidates in District #1 and #2. Justin Deim is the only name on the ballot for two seats in District #1, while no names are listed for a 2-year term in District #2 to fill a vacancy.
–In the City of Algona, the only changes will be in Wards #2 and #3. Don Johnson currently represents Ward 2, but the redistricting that occurred in 2021 now puts his residence in Ward #3, so he will seek the Ward #3 seat on the council unopposed. Jessica Gronau filed the paperwork seeking the Ward #2 spot, which is now unopposed. Kathy Dearchs, who was appointed to the Ward# 3 spot earlier this month, will seek election to a full term on the council in the At-Large seat. Harley Kohlhaas is unopposed in seeking reelection to his 4th Ward seat, as is Mayor Rick Murphy, who is seeking another 2-year term.
–Bancroft Mayor Thomas Johnson is unopposed in his bid for reelection, while incumbent Jeffrey Theisen is only name on the ballot for 2 seats that will need to be filled on the city council.
–In Burt, there are nine people seeking 3 seats on the city council. Incumbents Connie Kadow, Mary Melick and Randy Wood will be challenged their bids for reelection by Robin Ann VanLaningham, Joseph Heyes, Vicki Briggs, Christopher Michael Heyes, Harold Lavrenz and Kenny O’Leary.
–In Fenton, Gene Miller is running unopposed for Mayor, while six people are seeking the two seats on the city council. Incumbent Sandi Del Rosso is being joined on the ballot by Alex Suave, Jeffrey Clabaugh, Tim Peterson, Rhonda Cash and Ryan Harms.
–In Lakota, Mayor Nathan Heidecker is unopposed in his bid for reelection, while three people are seeking the two spots up for grabs on the city council. Incumbents Rick Meyer and Royce Janssen will be on the ballot with Chance Sahr.
–In Ledyard, write in candidates will be needed to fill 3 seats on the city council. Incumbent Royce Valvick is on the ballot for a 2-year term to fill a vacancy on the council, but nobody filed paperwork for the three full terms up for election.
–Lone Rock will need a write-in candidate for Mayor, with no names appearing on the ballot for that 2-year term. Four people will be on the ballot for three seats on the city council, with incumbents Jerry Nerem, Dennis Wilberg, and Shannon Doocy will be joined on the ballot by Jason Brace.
–In LuVerne, Mayor Kevin McPeak is unopposed in seeking reelection, while Dennis Carroll, Kelsey Casey and Scott Frideres are on the ballot for the three seats up for election on the city council.
–In Swea City, six people are seeking the three spots up for grabs on the city council. Incumbent Lupe Kollasch is joined on the ballot by Mark Geerdes, Shelly Geerdes, Zachary Long, Dustin Sobolik and Andy Donnelly.
–Titonka Mayor David LaGue is unopposed in his bid for reelection, while Sara Hamilton and Michael Fredrickson are the only names on the ballot for three seats on the city council, so a write-in candidate will be needed.
–In Wesley, Mayor Craig Larson is unopposed in his bid for reelection. Four people are seeking 3 seats on the city council, with incumbent David Reding joined by Phillip Ricke, Theresa Earles and Joella Leider.
–In Whittemore, incumbents Rebecca Lancaster, Tim Schneider and Rodney Johnson are all seeking reelection to the three seats up for grabs on the city council.
