Algona 48
–Forest City ended the game on a 13-0 run as the Indians defeated Algona 65-48 in Tuesday night’s season opener for both schools. Algona trailed by 10 at halftime, and got within 4 in the final quarter before the Indians went on their run. Casey Van Otterloo led the way for Algona with 18 points, while Lauren McLaughlin added 14. The Bulldogs will be back in action Monday when they travel to Estherville-Lincoln Central.
Bishop Garrigan 78
St. Edmond 17
–Bishop Garrigan opened defense of their 2nd straight Class 1A State Championship with a 78-17 win over St. Edmond Tuesday night in Algona. The Golden Bears jumped out to a 31-3 lead after 1 quarter and never looked back. Sacha Alesch led all scorers with 24 points, connecting on 5 of 8 from beyond the arc. Freshman Graclyn Eastman had 13 for Garrigan, while Abbie Capesius chipped in 12 and Zoey Montag added 11. The Golden Bears will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to Belmond-Klemme.
North Union 78
West Bend-Mallard 46
–Freshman Ainsley Ulrich scored 29-points and Naomi Jones added 17 as North Union opened the season with a 78-46 win over West Bend-Mallard Tuesday. The Warriors jumped out early, building a 22-11 lead after 1 quarter and a 41-17 lead at halftime. Libby Stevens added 14 for North Union, as the Warriors will be back in action on December 1st, when they host North Iowa. West Bend-Mallard returns to action after the holiday break on Tuesday, when host GT/RA.
