–The Algona School Board signed off on the district’s calendar for the 2025-2026 school year during their meeting Monday night. Superintendent Joe Carter addressed the board and told them the calendar would be set up like this year’s version.
Carter says this calendar would have more than 40 additional hours of instruction added in case time is missed due to bad weather.
The start date of August 25th is assuming the legislature does not act on any of the proposals being considered that would allow schools to start before August 23rd. Carter says they do have a plan in place and could change the calendar if the legislature changes the law.
Legally, schools in the state of Iowa cannot start classes prior to August 23rd.
