–The Algona School Board awarded a contract for the new fieldhouse during their meeting Monday night. Superintendent Joe Carter says the project drew the attention of several contractors from all over northern and central Iowa, as well as southern Minnesota.

Carter says they were pleased to see bids come in under the projected cost of the project.

Carter says Kingland Construction has been involved with several large projects across north Iowa in recent years.

Weather permitting, construction on the new fieldhouse can begin this spring, with a target date for completion in the fall of 2025. The new facility will hold a 6-lane indoor track, up to 6 full-size basketball courts, a new wrestling room as well as a new weight room, and will be constructed on the site of the old softball field just south and east of the high school building.
