–Up until a week ago, local school administrators hadn’t had to deal with weather related delays so far this year, but that has changed following a snowstorm that produced blizzard conditions and ended with dangerously cold temperatures. Algona Schools Superintendent Joe Carter tells KLGA News they try to make sure everyone is prepared when a delay takes place.
Carter says the fact that the district is now the 2nd biggest in the state in terms of land area means they need to make sure students can safely make it to school when they make decisions.
While students have missed three days in the last week, the district adds over 100 extra hours of instruction time each year to try and avoid keeping students in a classroom past Memorial Day.
