–A Titonka man was cited following a 1-vehicle rollover accident last week near the Union Slough National Wildlife Refuge.

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, 52-year-old Jason Wigand was traveling eastbound on County Road B14 in a 2007 Ford Focus around 9:30 AM on Monday, February 26th. Wigand told Deputies that he went off the shoulder and overcorrected, before entering the north ditch where the vehicle overturned and ended up in the water.

Officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Union Slough were notified as fluids from the vehicle leaked into the water.

Wigand was cited for failure to maintain control, and he will have be reexamined by DOT officials after investigators learned that this is the 2nd time in the last few weeks where he has had some sort of medical episode behind the wheel and blacked out.

Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $5,000.
