–While we’re still a week away from the start to March Madness, voting is currently underway in the first round of a contest to find the state’s best Pulled Pork. Hannah Spurr is the Consumer Outreach Director for the Iowa Pork Producers Association, and she tells KLGA News that they receive nominations for restaurants all across Iowa as a part of their Pulled Pork Madness contest.

Spurr says the contest is a lot of fun and helps many Iowans find new places that serve great pulled pork.

One of the first-round matchups features a restaurant from Emmet County going up against a Palo Alto County establishment. Mike Fries is the owner and operator of Smoke N Firehouse #20 in Ringsted, and they’re in the contest for the 2nd straight year. Fries tells KLGA News they take their pulled pork seriously.

The Ringsted restaurant is going up against Birdies, Burgers and Brews in Graettinger in the 1st round of the contest. Fries says he’s grateful for the support of his customers that keep voting for them.

The public can vote on the Iowa Pork Producer’s Facebook page or by going to www.iowapork.org/community/contests/pulled-pork-madness through the end of the day on Friday. The overall winner will receive a $250 prize and a plaque from the IPPA. Last year’s winner was the Flying Elbow restaurant in Marshalltown.
