–There will be contested primaries for two seats on the Board of Supervisors and Sheriff in Kossuth County this June, ahead of the November general election.
Friday was the filing deadline for County Offices in Iowa for the June 4th primary election, as 4 offices will be up for grabs this November in Kossuth County, including 2 seats on the Board of Supervisors where neither incumbent is seeking reelection.
2nd District Supervisor Jack Plathe and 5th District Supervisor Roger Tjarks are not seeking another term on the board, as neither filed the paperwork for their party nomination.
There will be a contested primaries in both races on the Republican side.
In District #2, both Will Struecker and Howard Haas have filed paperwork seeking the Republican Party nomination for the seat, which encompasses the western half of Algona. No Democrats filed to seek the seat.
In District #5, three candidates have filed for the Republican nomination. Christian Schlaefer of rural Lakota, Dennis Higgins of rural Titonka, and Amber Garman of rural Algona are all seeking the Republican nomination, while Bruce Meinders of rural Buffalo Center is the only candidate seeking the Democratic party nomination for the seat.
Sheriff Roger Fisher is being challenged by Deputy Brian Runneberg in the June Primary, both seeking the Republican party nomination. The winner could face a write-in challenger in November, as nobody filed the paperwork to be the Democratic party’s nominee.
Auditor Tammy Eden is unopposed in the Republican primary, seeking a second term this November.
