–The Algona Police Officer who was killed in the line of duty last year was one of two names added to the State’s Peace Officer Memorial Wall this morning at a ceremony in Des Moines. Officer Kevin Cram was honored alongside Des Moines Police Officer Phoukham Tran. Iowa Public Safety Commissioner Stephen Baynes spoke during the ceremony, honoring those who have answered the call for their community.

Baynes spoke about Officer Cram, and the tragedy that unfolded in the early evening hours of September 13th, 2023.

Baynes says Cram was much more than an officer of the law.

Governor Kim Reynolds was also in attendance, and paid tribute to the fallen officers.

Tran passed away in November of 2023 at the age of 65. In 2011, he was critically injured after being struck by a drunk driver while directing traffic during the Iowa State Fair. Tran was forced to medically retire in 2012, having served 30 years with the Des Moines PD. The injuries he suffered after being struck caused him to suffer from a wide assortment of medical conditions until his death.
