Investigation into Fatal Emmet County Shooting Underway

–An investigation is underway in Emmet County after Law Enforcement responded to the report of a gunshot at a rural Armstrong address Friday morning.

According to the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 call came in around 6:20 AM Friday, reporting a shots fired incident in the 5400 block of 120th Avenue, about 5 miles north of Armstrong.

Deputies responded to the scene, and upon arrival discovered a male subject who had sustained a single gunshot wound. The subject was transported by ambulance to the Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, where he was later pronounced dead.

Law Enforcement officials say while the investigation is ongoing, there is no ongoing threat to the public with regards to this case.

The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Iowa State Patrol, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Armstrong Ambulance Service and the Emmet County Medical Examiner.
