–Several area school districts are participating in the USDA’s Summer Food Service program, which officially kicks off today. Algona, Humboldt, North Union and Emmetsburg are among the schools across Iowa offering meals free of charge to area children.
In Algona, the meals can be picked up at Bryant Elementary 4 days a week, Monday through Thursday, through the month of June. They provide breakfast from 7:45-8:45 AM and Lunch from 11AM-12:15 PM, and all of the meals are grab and go, with no on-site dining. On Thursday’s, children can get meals for Friday, Saturday and Sunday as well.
The North Union School District is providing meals in Swea City and Armstrong. The grab-and-go meals will be available in Swea City from 11AM-12PM and in Armstrong from 11:15 AM-12PM Monday through Thursday until the 27th.
The Humboldt District is offering meals at the Twin Rivers building in Bode on Mondays and Thursdays through June and July. Children will be able to pick up a 3-day meal pack on Mondays and a 4-day pack on Thursdays.
Children 18 and under are all eligible to receive the free meals, which are served on a first come-first served basis.
