–The Whittemore City Council approved a resolution on Monday that will call for the removal of any “timed” water softeners within the community. Whittemore City Clerk Linda Farrell tells KLGA News this is part of their efforts to improve their sanitary sewer system and meet requirements from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
A recent inventory within the city limits revealed numerous properties contained the “timed” water softeners. Farrell says those softeners can increase chloride counts.
The resolution that was passed on Monday states that water currently distributed by the city has already been softened down to approximately six grains of hardness. Residents with a “timed” softener can apply for a $200 rebate towards the installation of an “on demand” softener in their home, anytime before November 1st.
