–The 25th Annual Algona Founder’s Day Celebration officially kicks off this evening with the presentation of the Heritage Award and the “Voices from the Past” presentation at Riverview Cemetery. Organizer Jane Nettleton says they have tour guides ready to show you around the cemetery and take you to the featured grave sites.

Nettleton says two generations of the same family will be featured this evening.

Another site will have costumes provided by one of the descendants of the people being portrayed.

Nettleton says a story will also be told about some area residents that fought in the Civil War.

The Heritage Award presentation is scheduled for 6PM, with the “Voices from the Past” to be heard starting around 6:30 PM at the Riverview Cemetery. If you plan on attending, you’re asked to wear comfortable shoes as you will be walking quite a bit. If you need to sit for the presentations, you will need to bring lawn chairs, and with all the rain we’ve had this summer, bringing bug spray is highly recommended. In case of rain this evening, the events would be moved to Algona City Hall.
