Bishop Garrigan 9
North Iowa 1

Bishop Garrigan softball’s season will continue Friday night after the Golden Bears beat North Iowa 9-1 Wednesday night in class 1A – region 1 postseason action.  The game began as a pitchers duel, with North Iowa senior Jaycee Plath and Bishop Garrigan senior Ella Schaaf pitching to a scoreless tie through three innings.  North Iowa finally broke through in the top of the 4th, as a Brooklyn Price RBI double with two outs gave the Bison a 1-0 lead.  However, Bishop Garrigan would respond in a big way in the bottom of the 4th, sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring 7 runs.  Shiloh Trainer drove in the first run of the inning on a slow ground ball to third base with the bases loaded, as the Bison tried to throw home, but were late and didn’t record any outs.  A wild pitch followed by a Molly Peterson sacrifice fly put Bishop Garrigan up 3-1.  With 2 outs, Alyssa Haugland and Zoe Montag kept the line moving with singles, as Haugland’s RBI single made the score 4-1.  The two out hits gave Abbie Capesius a chance to bat with two runners on base, and she hammered her 30th career home run, to put Bishop Garrigan up 7-1.  With her three RBI, she now has 47 for the season, the Bishop Garrigan single season record.  Ella Schaaf pitched a strong 7 innings to get the win in the circle, allowing 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 6 batters.  Hanna Merron finished 3/4, Abbie Capesius was 2/4 with a homer and double, and Alyssa Haugland was also 2/4 for the Golden Bears. Brooklyn Price went 2/3 with a pair of doubles in the loss for North Iowa. Bishop Garrigan visits St. Edmond on Friday night at 7 o’clock in the next round of the postseason.

Ridge View 10
North Union 1

The season is over for North Union softball, as the Warriors were defeated 10-1 at the hands of Ridge View in class 2A – region 2 play.  The Raptors struck early, scoring 3 in the both the 2nd and 3rd innings to go up 6-0.  After the Warriors scored their lone run in the 4th on a home run by Shallie Walders, her 2nd of the season, the Raptors removed all doubt with a 4 run top of the 7th inning.  Tatum Shepard picked up the win with 7 innings pitched, allowing 1 run on 7 hits, walking 1 and striking out 8. Reese Hawthorne and Leslie Avina were both 2/3 with home runs in the win for Ridge View, while Zoey Aschinger and Tatum Shepard both had 2 hits in 4 at bats. North Union ends the season 16-14, while Ridge View wins their 6th game in a row and plays Audubon on Friday.
