–The Central Park Splash Pad is nearing completion, as officials with the City of Algona say they plan to open the new feature yet this summer.

According to a news release, exactly when the splash pad will open has not been determined, as some work still needs to be completed. Mechanical work inside the newly renovated shelter house and a state inspection of the new amenities at Central Park need to be finished before it can be opened to the public.

The new splash pad is some 2,600 square feet that includes several spray areas, a large dump bucket, trees with dump buckets, and shaded areas. When the city gets the green light to let the public enjoy the new facility, it will be open from 8AM-9PM daily on a seasonal basis, as weather permits.

The new Splash Pad is part of a multi-phase redevelopment project at Central Park that has been ongoing since the fall of 2021. The improvements include a new skatepark, new fencing and dugouts on the ball diamond, construction of new sidewalks in and around the perimeter of the park, as well as updates to the shelter house.
