–The software outage that crippled computer servers all around the world late last week caused some concerns locally. Kossuth County IT Director Derek Olson addressed the Board of Supervisors during their meeting this week, and he says the problem began just after Midnight last Friday, and he was quickly called by dispatch when they realized something was not right.

Olson says an update performed by CrowdStrike, an anti-virus software used globally, caused the failure. Olson says Kossuth County was pretty fortunate, as most systems here were back up and running by 8AM that day.

Olson says the county will take the proper measures to make sure they are prepared if something like this ever happens again.

In other business, the Supervisors initially set the date for a fiscal year 2024/2025 budget amendment before deciding later to postpone that vote. During the morning session of their meeting, the board voted to bring that budget amendment forward on August 13th. However, during an afternoon workshop later in the day, the board voted 4-1 to postpone that vote until they receive advice from legal counsel, with Supervisor Roger Tjarks voting against the postponement. The board gave no timeline as to when they may hear back from legal counsel and be able to bring the budget amendment forward.
