–The Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation is teaming with the Iowa Prairie Network to host a nature hike at the Wildin Heritage Prairie near Algona Saturday. Joe McGovern is the President of the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, and he tells KLGA they are excited to show off the area.

Dr. Tom Rosburg from Drake University in Des Moines will lead the hike, and McGovern says he’ll provide valuable insight.

The Wildin Heritage Prairie includes two neighboring sites with remnant prairie and is located near the intersection of County Roads P30 and B55, about 5 miles southwest of Algona. Much of the land has never been drained or plowed, something McGovern says is hard to find in Iowa these days.

McGovern says stepping on the Wildin Heritage Prairie is one way to travel back in time.

The hike is scheduled for 9:30 AM Saturday (August 3rd) and should be wrapped up by noon. McGovern says area residents who want to come out for the hike do not need to stay that whole time. Registration is requested so they can have an idea of how many people to plan for and can be done by going to www.inhf.org/events.
