–The Kossuth County Board of Supervisors is being encouraged to create a County Administrator position to help deal with complex budget issues. Algona Mayor Rick Murphy addressed the Supervisors during their meeting this week, and he says with the budget problems facing Kossuth County at this time, hiring an administrator might be worth the cost.
Recent changes in Iowa law have impacted how counties collect property taxes and thrown budgets into limbo. For that reason, some Iowa counties have implemented a County Administrator position to assist their decision makers.
Murphy says hiring an administrator would help the Supervisors craft a budget more effectively when spending cuts are on the horizon.
Since the presentation was made during the board’s public comment time, they did not discuss the matter and gave no indication whether they will consider the idea going forward.
