–The Kossuth County Emergency Management Commission is asking the Board of Supervisors to restore funding that was cut in the current fiscal year budget. Algona Mayor Rick Murphy serves as the Chairman of the Emergency Management Commission, and he addressed the board during their meeting this week. Murphy says the final amount of the cut was never discussed with commission members.
Whether the Board of Supervisors has the legal authority to reduce the Emergency Management Commission budget is unclear.
Murphy went on to say they brought this to the attention of the county’s legal counsel back in April.
The board is scheduled to speak with the County Attorney as part of their meeting next week to discuss the matter.
