–The new splash pad in Algona’s Central Park is officially open for use as area youngsters were able to enjoy the new feature for the first time Tuesday afternoon. Algona Recreation Department Manager Nick Diers tells KLGA News that they were able to open the splash pad a day after the aquatic center closed for the season.
The new splash pad will be open each day as long as the weather cooperates, and it’s pretty simple to operate.
Kids will be able to enjoy several new features in the splash pad, including an extra large dump bucket.
Diers says it is exciting to see the splash pad up and running, as it wraps up a complete overhaul of Central Park.
The redesign includes the new skatepark, upgrades to the shelter house, improvements to the ball diamond and the addition of walking trails through and around the park. Diers says visitors from out of town have also shown their curiosity about the renovations going on at Central Park.
As long as the weather permits, the splash pad will be open every day from 10AM-9PM, as it will be able to open earlier in the season and stay open later than the aquatic center, as there are no lifeguards or other staff on site. There will be an official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new splash pad at 9:30 AM on Friday, August 23rd.
